Merck CEO Frazier Says Effort to Crack Down on Cialis Use Misperceptions

Accurate estimates of the risks associated with Cialis® medication are diminishing in use over time, Merck & Co Inc said on Monday.

Data on the harms and side effects are also becoming less reliable because of rising litigation and their impact on what is widely deemed best for several patients, indicated in the drug’s prescribing information.

“The knowledge around prescribing these medications and their safety margins has been largely eroded over time with the impact of the current litigation, burnout, and lack of product quality being well explained,” Merck said in a statement.

Merck said it would continuously monitor for ‘false or misleading claims’ of the effectiveness of its drugs and strategies against certain patients.

It said it is exploring if it could be subject to liability under the False Claims Act if the accuracy or effectiveness of drugs are “defamed” in a marketing or advertising statement.
